This website is part of a very large archive which aims to record the construction of the various light vessels over the more than two centuries of service and preserve the memories of some of those who served aboard them.
Anthony Lane, a scientist by profession and long time student of British coastal maritime history was born in 1941 and has written books and contributed to numerous journals over the past thirty years on subjects including shipwrecks, lifeboats, coastal resorts, lighthouses and lightships, having spent time with the keepers and lightsmen during the last years of manning. He currently lives in Wiltshire.
